SMALL GROUPS

Often, small groups of people are better able to interact and learn about a topic than larger groups are. For that reason, our church has small groups of interest held at the church.

Currently, we have Sit-N-Knit on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 pm, a chair yoga group that meets at 8:00 Wednesday morning in our Christian education room.

 Dwelling In the Word

Mondays 12 pm – 1 pm

William Blake wrote, “Where mercy, love, and pity dwell, there is God dwelling too.”  Please join me in discovering where we see God dwelling in our world today through sharing in the reading of Scripture together.

Our hour together will begin with a brief check-in time. We will then read a passage from Scripture together, hold a bit of silence and move to a time of sharing what words and phrases are speaking to us. We will read the same Scripture again, from another Bible version, hold silence, and reflect on how God might be nudging us as individuals, a group, or a church in the passage. We will close our time together in prayer.  This practice is based on the premise that theHoly Spirit is best discerned in groups.

Book Discussion Group

Wednesday Nights 7:15-8:30 pm

Please join us for a new “virtual” book discussion as we explore Isabel Wilkerson’s book, Caste – The Origins of Our Discontents.  In this book Wilkerson examines the  unspoken caste system that has shaped America and shows how our lives today are still defined by a hierarchy of human divisions.  Caste is brilliantly and masterfully written and will ultimately lead us to a time of deep and thought-provoking discussion and learning.

We will be discussing the book in five sessions broken down as follows:

  • January 19th – Parts One and Two (pages 3-96)
  • January 26th – Part Three (pages 97-164)
  • February 2nd – Part Four (pages 165-260)
  • February 9th – Parts Five and Six (pages 261-357)
  • February 16th – Part Seven and Epilogue (pages 358-388)

Please reach out to Debbie at 508-400-4616 or debbie@highstreet-ucc.org with any questions and/or you need assistance in purchasing the book.
